Now scientists are learning that some neurodegenerative diseases can develop even though a gene is perfectly normal. The diseases can be caused when the genetic instructions contained in the gene are not executed properly, leading to a lethal buildup of malformed proteins in brain cells.

I am attending the AIDS 2006 conference in Toronto; that explain the lack of updates recently, as I'll be presenting on Thursday and had a lot to prepare (and lots of things to attend to). It's been very interesting up so far; as you may know, Bill & Melinda Gates as well as Bill Clinton gave a talk about the current situation of AIDS worlwide; the main focus this year revolve around giving more power to women in developped / poor countries.

I'll try to keep the site updated, but don't worry if I miss a day or two; the situation should be back to normal by early next week.
